Introduced for the 2008 model year, the third-generation Subaru Impreza expanded the nameplate’s reach with a broader, more modern lineup offered in sedan and five-door hatchback body styles and, uniquely, in two different widths. Standard Imprezas launched in narrow-body form, while a wide-body configuration debuted on the WRX STi and later filtered down to the WRX from 2011, clearly separating performance models from the base range. Production of standard Impreza variants concluded in 2011, but WRX and WRX STi models continued through to 2014, after which Subaru split the performance cars into a standalone Subaru WRX model line. Global production for the third-generation Impreza is estimated at approximately 1.1–1.2 million units, with WRX/STi models representing a smaller, more sought-after subset. In the Australian market, this generation was officially sold in strong numbers and became a staple of local performance culture—particularly the wide-body WRX/STi—driving demand today for manual, wide-body, well-documented examples, as buyers increasingly prioritise originality, condition, and clear variant separation within this transitional era.
