MARKET ANALYSIS
1st Gen (2015 to 2021)

Introduced for the 2015 model year, the first-generation Subaru WRX (VA) marked a major shift for Subaru, becoming a standalone performance model after being separated from the Impreza range for the first time. Built exclusively as a sedan, the VA WRX adopted a wider, more aggressive body and a stiffer chassis, while retaining Subaru’s trademark symmetrical all-wheel drive and turbocharged flat-four power. Offered in WRX and higher-performance WRX STi form, this generation continued Subaru’s rally-inspired formula while moving further upmarket in terms of size, refinement, and technology. Global production is estimated at approximately 200,000–220,000 units across WRX and STi variants, with the VA generation remaining in production until 2021, before being replaced by the VB. In the Australian market, the VA WRX was officially sold in strong numbers and became a common sight in both street and track settings, with demand today driven by manual transmission cars, STi variants, originality, mileage, and condition, as buyers increasingly view the VA as the last WRX generation to retain a more traditional analogue feel before the next-generation redesign.
