Seller's Notes

This Land Rover Series III 88” is a handsome and comprehensively rebuilt example of the renowned classic British 4x4, which has been enhanced with tasteful performance and cosmetic upgrades. Under the bonnet sits the original 2.25-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, fed by a Weber carburettor, delivering around 54kW to all four wheels via a four-speed manual transmission with a Fairey overdrive unit. The odometer shows 73,574 miles. This Australian-market Series III has been with the seller for two and a half years. This Series III is finished in an appealing shade of green over a black vinyl-trimmed interior. It rides on a set of widened 16-inch Land Rover ‘Made in Australia' deep-dish steel wheels, finished in satin black, and shod in new Falken Wildpeak A/T tyres. The factory specification includes a three-spoke steering wheel, a high and low-range gearbox, Jaeger gauges, and a Smiths heater. This Series III has been upgraded with a galvanised chassis, dual fuel tanks, a Fairey overdrive unit, parabolic leaf springs, a Weber carburettor, electronic ignition, a short-throw gear shifter, a steering damper, teak decking in the rear load-bay, a bulkhead-mounted CB-radio, aftermarket LED reversing lights, and a Wright off-road heavy-duty interior sound deadening mat. The car will be supplied with a spare wheel, a replica of the original owner’s handbook, a toolkit, a jack, and an extensive amount of spare parts – including but not limited to, electrical components, a clutch, grille covers, headlight covers, and a camshaft. The previously resprayed green paintwork is reported to be in good overall condition, though the seller notes minor blemishes, scratches, and small dents around the car. There is also a small patch of surface rust on the upper driver’s door hinge. Inside, the retrimmed cabin is presented in good shape given the car’s usage. The seller notes some light imperfections around the trim, and there is also slight warping on the driver’s side upper dashboard, and minor scuffs and dents on the inner tailgate. The seller notes a slight lean on the offside front suspension leaf, though a new set of parabolic springs is included in the sale to rectify the issue, and the aftermarket reverse lights are not working. This Series III’s most recent maintenance was carried out in April 2022 by the seller, which consisted of an engine oil and filter change, a gearbox oil change, new transfer case oil, and new spark plugs. It is understood that prior to this, the seller changed the engine oil, oil filter, gearbox oil, and transfer case oil every six months. A comprehensive ground-up rebuild was carried out in 2017, which included a full respray, engine rebuild, gearbox and transfer rebuild, electrical re-wire and an interior retrim. Other notable maintenance includes the Weber carburettor being cleaned and rebuilt, a minor brake light fault rectified, and the choke cable replaced. This Land Rover Series III 88” is an appealing and comprehensively rebuilt example of the iconic ‘go-anywhere’ British 4x4, which has been enhanced with a number of tasteful performance and cosmetic upgrades. Presented in good condition throughout, it would make a versatile yet characterful companion for retro daily driving, and weekend adventures both on and off the beaten track.
