About the Land Rover Series III

The Land Rover Series III, manufactured globally from 1971 to 1985, represents the final evolution of the original leaf-sprung lineage, introducing more modern touches like a full-width padded dashboard and the first fully synchromesh gearbox for easier driving. In the 2026 Australian market, the Series III has seen a major jump in desirability, especially for the Stage 1 V8 (1979–1983) and the late-production High Capacity Pick Up (HCPU), which are prized for blending classic looks with extra power. The buyer pool in Australia is a mix of nostalgic weekend adventurers looking for a more "user-friendly" vintage 4x4 and collectors hunting for the rare "Game" special editions or ex-military units with a rugged history. Locally, market value is very strong for 88-inch short-wheelbase models and 109-inch Station Wagons, as 2026 buyers prioritise these for their historic character and their role as a prestigious entry point into the world of investment-grade Land Rover heritage.
