Seller's Notes

A charming Italian convertible, which seeks an enthusiastic next owner to commission a comprehensive restoration. The car has competition history including AROC club championships, the Repco Mountain Rally, and Grand Prix Rally. Under the bonnet is the 2.0-litre twin-cam inline-four engine fed by twin Weber carburettors, which is coupled to a five-speed manual transmission. A genuine Australian-delivered right-hand drive car, first registered in December 1974, this Alfa Romeo Spider has been with the vendor for the past 30 years. Its condition means the next owner has lots of choice when refurbishing or even upgrading the car. A classic Italian Spider, equipped with the famed 2.0-litre twin-cam engine, the Series 2 model saw the introduction of the ‘Kamm tail’ to the design. Now to be confused with period ‘Californian conversions’ to right-hand drive, this is an original Australian-delivered car. The car retains its original engine, but this has been upgraded to electronic ignition. A new gearbox and bell housing has previously been fitted. A roll bar was installed in the past for club racing, but this is easily removed. An aftermarket Pioneer stereo, equaliser, and upgraded Clarion speakers are fitted, though again these could be stripped out to put the cabin back to a stock appearance as part of the restoration. There are three spare wheels and tyres included in the sale. There is some minor panel damage, as shown in the gallery. The Pagoda Yellow paint work is in generally fair condition, with signs of surface rust in several areas. It will require a full strip, refurbishment, and respray. The soft top has some blemishes and one 10cm tear. All badges and trim appear to be present, including the second headlight cover. Inside, the seats show significant rips and wear; however the door cards and dash remain in good overall condition for their age with no major cracking apparent. All gauges, switches and controls are in place. The vendor is not aware of any major faults, though evidently the car is in need of restoration. The most recent service was performed in June 2021 by specialist Alfa Romeo workshop, Sydney’s Corse Automotive. Its twin Weber carburettors have just been overhauled as a cost of A$300 each. This Alfa Romeo 2000 Spider Veloce represents a tempting opportunity as a seemingly complete and largely original basis for a total ground-up restoration. The car could be sympathetically refurbished with some fresh paintwork and trim to a good, usable condition; or the next owner may wish to make it truly exemplary for Concours d’Elegance purposes. Whichever approach the buyer chooses, it will no doubt prove to be a rewarding process, resulting in a smart and enjoyable classic roadster.
