This Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser is a rugged Japanese 4x4, which remains largely original as a relatively rare factory soft top version. Under the bonnet is the 4.2-litre straight-six, producing around 135hp and 210lb-ft of torque, which drives all four wheels via the four-speed manual gearbox and low-range transfer case. The vehicle is reported to have three owners from new, and has now been with the seller for around a year. The first 40 years of ownership are believed to have been spent in the relatively dry northern Victorian area. This vehicle retains its original Victorian registration number. The odometer indicates 26,830 km, though the car’s true mileage is thought to be around 126,830 km. It underwent a major engine and gearbox service in November 2021, which also included a clutch replacement. This FJ40 Land Cruiser is finished in dark green, with a white headlight surround and an aftermarket soft-top canopy roof, over a black vinyl-trimmed interior. It is fitted with rare factory steel bows. The car rides on original 16-inch split rim wheels, shod with Kenda Klever M/T tyres. The cabin is equipped with an Electrophone radio system, manually operated windows and a three-spoke steering wheel. Accompanying the vehicle will be its original owner’s handbook, repair manuals and jack, along with ten pages of service receipts. The seller is not aware of any bodywork damage. Its resprayed paintwork is described as being in good condition, with various stone chips and scratches, corrosion on some of the fixings, as well as a minor patch of surface rust on the rear-left quarter. Stepping inside, there is some age-related creasing and discoloration on the original seat upholstery, as well as surface wear on the dashboard and patches of corrosion throughout the cabin. The inside of the canvas roof is discoloured. The seller is not aware of any mechanical or electrical faults. Its most recent service was in November 2021 at a 126,707 km, where technicians at R&J Auto Tune in Dromana, Victoria replaced the timing case seal, rear main oil seal, transfer case rear and output seals, alternator belt, sump gasket, engine oil, oil filter, gearbox oil, transfer case oil, coolant, clutch, pressure plates and the spigot and thrust bearings, and also reconditioned the water pump. Prior to this, in October 2021, the vehicle underwent a roadworthiness vehicle inspection, after which the handbrake light was repaired, the handbrake itself was adjusted, a new centre seatbelt was fitted, and the engine bay was cleaned and degreased. The heater tap on the firewall has also been replaced. This Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser is a rugged and dependable Japanese 4x4, which remains largely unmodified, and benefits from a major service and clutch replacement in November 2021. Now ready to be enjoyed, it would make a practical off-road workhorse, or a useful all-season daily driver.
