About the Toyota Land Cruiser 40 Series

Produced primarily between 1961 and 1986, the Toyota Land Cruiser 40 Series is widely regarded as one of the most durable and iconic four-wheel drives ever built, forming the backbone of Toyota’s global off-road reputation. Encompassing models such as the FJ40, FJ43, and FJ45, along with their pickup, wagon, and troop carrier variants, the 40 Series was engineered for extreme conditions, with petrol-powered FJ models and diesel BJ/HJ variants offering unmatched longevity. In total, over one million 40 Series Land Cruisers were produced worldwide, a testament to their global success. In the Australian market, the 40 Series became a true workhorse across farming, mining, and remote-area use, and today it is highly sought after in both original, unrestored condition and as high-end resto-mod builds, with values driven by body style, drivetrain (diesel premium), originality, and provenance, cementing its status as one of the most collectible classic 4x4s ever sold.
