Seller's Notes

This C107-generation Mercedes-Benz 450 SLC is an attractive classic coupe, which was the flagship car of the R107/C107 range during the 1970s and early ‘80s. It is powered by a naturally aspirated 4.5-litre V8 engine, producing up to 167kW / 222bhp, which is sent to the rear wheels via a smooth-shifting three-speed automatic transmission. This Australian-delivery example has been with its current and fourth owner for just over three years. The odometer shows 187,706 kilometres (116,635 miles) from new. This 450 SLC wears an elegant shade of Petrol Blue Metallic over a cream leather interior, with handsome burr wood trims on the centre console and dash. It rides on period-correct 14-inch ‘Bundt’ alloy wheels, featuring the correct three-pointed star Mercedes-Benz centre caps, and shod in a set Kumho Ecowing KH27 tyres. This SLC was equipped with a sliding sunroof, heating and ventilation, electric front and rear windows, manual door mirrors, a heated rear screen, and cruise control. It is also fitted with an aftermarket Clarion head unit with Bluetooth and USB connectivity. The original owner’s manuals accompany the car, as do the majority of the maintenance invoices from the car’s lifetime, and one key. The seller notes that the car’s original radio is also available if required. The Petrol Blue Metallic paintwork is noted by the seller as being in generally good condition, with age-related blemishes including dents on the doors, a scratch on the offside rear quarter caused by a shopping trolley, and scratching and bubbling on the boot lid. Inside, there is cracking in the leather on the seat bases, discolouration, cracking and dulling of the lacquer on the centre console trims, scuffing on the door cards, wear on the carpets, and parting of the stitching on the shoulder of the driver’s seat, all in keeping with the car’s age and daily use. The seller notes that the radio, windscreen water pump, and a door lock do not work, and that the car requires some throttle to start from hot. They also note a small amount of rust on the drainage holes under the doors. The seller is otherwise not aware of any electrical or mechanical faults, and they state that there are no warning lights showing on the dashboard. The latest service was performed at 185,000 km by Wardsport Brookvale, which was an engine oil and oil filter change, along with the replacement of various hoses, and the auxiliary air idle valve, a service to the thermostat, an engine tune, and a fuel intake tweak. Prior to this, the seller notes that the car was serviced every few months. During their ownership, the seller notes that the spark plugs, rear screen rubber, oils, air filters, fuel filters, tyres, coolant hoses, and coolant reservoir have been replaced, and that the air conditioning system has also been refilled with refrigerant. This Mercedes-Benz 450 SLC is a sophisticated classic coupe, which has been used and maintained regularly in current ownership. It remains highly original, and while it could benefit from some light cosmetic attention in due course, it is reported to run very well. It will no doubt be enjoyed by its new owner whether put to use as a stylish classic cruiser or a wonderful addition to a collection. The description of this auction lot is, to the best of the seller's knowledge, accurate and not misleading. Collecting Cars requests a range of detail about the lot from the seller, and performs a level of due diligence.
