About the Mercedes-Benz SL - R107/C107

The Mercedes-Benz SL and SLC (R107/C107), manufactured globally between 1971 and 1989, serve as the quintessential "boulevard cruisers," blending robust reliability with a timeless, open-air lifestyle. This iconic series features the two-seat R107 roadster with its detachable hardtop and the longer-wheelbase C107 SLC coupé, powered by a legendary range of engines from the 280SL straight-six to the muscular, Australian-market 560SL V8. In the 2026 Australian market, desirability is focused on the late-series 560SL and 500SL, while the buyer pool is a mix of lifestyle enthusiasts looking for a weekend escape and serious collectors targeting rare pre-merger AMG examples. Locally, market value has stayed incredibly firm for well-preserved, Australian-delivered units, as 2026 buyers prioritise cars with verified maintenance from specialists like Stuttgart Shop or MB Spares to ensure critical V8 timing chain and vacuum system health.
