Seller's Notes

A rugged and characterful long-wheelbase Toyota Land Cruiser HJ47 Troop Carrier, formerly owned by the late Steve Irwin and acquired directly from Australia Zoo in 2013. It is now powered by a naturally aspirated 302-ci (4.9-litre) Cleveland V8, driving all four wheels via a four-speed manual transmission. The vehicle has been subject to extensive mechanical refurbishment, an electrical system overhaul, and sympathetic interior improvements under the current 12-year ownership. The odometer shows an impressive 415,426 km from new. Build year: 1982 This Land Cruiser HJ47 Troop Carrier is finished in a timeless shade of white with contrasting green-painted ‘The Crocodile Hunter™’ lettering on the sides and bonnet, over a brown vinyl and beige patterned cloth-trimmed interior, featuring a body-coloured lower dashboard and black vinyl-trimmed rear bench seats. It rides on a set of 16-inch chrome six-spoke ‘LX’ steel wheels fitted with Yokohama Geolandar A/T tyres. Equipment includes a top-tinted windscreen, sliding windows, heater and ventilation controls, and a high and low range gearbox. This example has unique chassis and body features, including an HJ47 Troop Carrier body with evidence of ute chassis components, such as a rear crossmember from a ute model, and extra cab mount supports, as well as an aluminium bull bar believed to date from its time at the zoo. It has been fitted with an aftermarket Pioneer stereo with Bluetooth connectivity and matching door card speakers, 60-Series front seats, a 302ci Cleveland V8, a rebuilt Holley carburettor, custom door cards, and additional rear speakers. The car comes with a history booklet and a letter from Robert Irwin, noting the vehicle’s provenance. Supplied with one key. Please refer to the photo gallery to assess the exterior and interior condition. Specific notes from the seller include: previously had side and rear doors removed during zoo ownership, but the doors were replaced and repainted to match. There are also various areas of rust that will require attention in the future. The interior door panels were retrimmed for the speakers, the headliner was replaced, and carpet was added to the roof for acoustic and thermal improvement. This Land Cruiser’s most recent maintenance was carried out in February 2023 at approximately 414,000 kilometres by Mr Land Cruiser, including a range of mechanical refurbishments and component replacements. Significant recent works include: a new radiator, all the driveline oils and filters replaced, all the suspension bushes and shocks renewed, the handbrake assembly replaced, the clutch master cylinder replaced, a gearbox mount replaced, a new fan belt, a new starter motor, and various electrical repairs, including new dashboard instruments and LED rear lights. Previous upkeep has been ongoing under current ownership, with regular checks to ensure safety and reliability. This Toyota Land Cruiser HJ45 Troop Carrier is a robust modern classic 4x4 with a compelling backstory, having once belonged to the late Steve Irwin and served at Australia Zoo. Its V8 conversion, significant recent refurbishment, and blend of practical upgrades with original charm make it a distinctive and capable vehicle for the next custodian. Whether appreciated as an icon of Australian motoring history or enjoyed as a charismatic and usable classic off-roader, it represents a rare and appealing opportunity.
