A very smart example of the Toyota FJ45 Land Cruiser Troop Carrier, affectionately known as the ‘Troopy’, which has recently undergone a comprehensive restoration. Under the bonnet is a replacement but period-correct 4.2-litre ‘2F’ straight-six, coupled to a four-speed manual transmission with high and low range gearing. This ‘Troopy’ has now been with the seller for three years, who began the restoration work in 2021. Every under-bonnet component has reportedly been replaced, with the seller noting it has been refurbished with reliability in mind. This FJ45 is finished in white, with a black soft-top roof and a black vinyl-trimmed interior. It still features the factory-fitted power steering and front disc brakes. The car rides on 16-inch wheels with Aisin freewheel hubs, shod with BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A tyres. Inside, it has room for a driver and one upfront passenger, plus ten rear passengers on its bench seats. It has been equipped with an electric ignition, and an aftermarket Pioneer stereo has been installed in the cabin. Please note: the Victoria club permit registration ‘3907 H6’ will not be included in the sale. Its resprayed paintwork is reported to be in excellent condition, with a minor stone chip on the rear end, and some small imperfections on the bonnet, hinges and black body trims. Inside, the seats and dashboard pad have been reupholstered, but the door cards and rear seats remain original, and the latter have faded slightly. There is now some discolouration on the original dashboard plastics and gear lever surround, as well as some light wear in the footwells, but nothing beyond characterful ‘patina’ of age. The seller has reported a very minor transmission oil leak. Its most recent service was in May 2022 at around 248,000 km, where staff at Tune Spec Automotive replaced the engine oil, oil filter, differential oils, front wheel bearings and handbrake cable. During the seller’s ownership, the clutch, master cylinder, brake lines, front brake pads, starter motor, power steering hoses, thermostat, radiator hoses, door latches, rocker cover gasket, exhaust, fuel pump and windscreen have been replaced. The flywheel has been machined, and the cylinder head, distributor, radiator, rear drums, power steering box and pump have been rebuilt. The carburettor has also been rebuilt, by staff at Wilson Carburettor Service. Technicians at Auto Elec have cleaned up the wiring and performed an electrical check. This Toyota FJ45 Land Cruiser ‘Troopy’ is a restored example of the Japanese troop carrier, which has recently been refurbished and fitted with a few sensible modifications. It would now make a capable off-road companion and a fun addition to any collection. The description of this auction lot is, to the best of the seller's knowledge, accurate and not misleading.
