Seller's Notes

This W460-generation Mercedes-Benz 300 GD Cabriolet is a superb example of the timeless ‘Geländewagen’ 4x4. It is powered by the desirable 3.0-litre inline-five diesel engine, producing up to 65kW / 87bhp, driven through all four wheels via a five-speed manual transmission. Originally delivered to the UK, in more recent years it has been exported to Australia. The car has been with the seller for four years and has undergone a comprehensive cosmetic and mechanical restoration. This 300 GD is presented in a vivid Carmine Red (the original factory colour) with new satin black wheel arch extensions, black bumpers and grille and a new black soft top roof, over a fresh new black and grey chequered cloth interior with vinyl trim. The factory specification includes heating and ventilation controls, spare wheel carrier, front seat headrests, folding rear bench seat and tilting front seats. The car has been upgraded with factory specification air conditioning and 90L long range fuel tank. It comes with the paperwork for the recent restoration. There is no known prior accident damage on the car. The bodywork was restored and repainted as part of a ‘phase 1’ restoration just prior to the current ownership. A check on the UK’s HPI car history portal also reveals a clean result with no markers for damage or theft. The Carmine Red paintwork is reported to be in excellent condition, having been fully resprayed, and is well documented in the photo gallery. The interior is presented in great shape, in line with the recent refurbishment. There are also some marks on the driver’s side carpet, but overall the cabin is in superb order. There are no known mechanical or electrical faults with the car. The most recent roadworthiness test was on 22 April 2022 and was recorded as a clean pass. The recent comprehensive restoration included a major overhaul of the brakes, exhaust and electrical system, new Bilstein rear shock absorbers, a new folding soft-top roof, a major engine service (rebuild not required), and bodywork trim refurbishments. The completed restoration work totalled over A$100,000. This W460-generation Mercedes-Benz 300 GD Cabriolet is an exceptional example of the highly capable classic 4x4, benefitting from a recent comprehensive restoration. With its rugged dependability, five-speed manual transmission and added dimension of being able to enjoy the drive with the roof down, it would make a great companion for all kinds of adventures – whether on or off the road.
