Seller's Notes

This Porsche 928 S2 is a sought-after modern classic grand touring coupe, specified with the rare manual gearbox. It is powered by a naturally aspirated 4.7-litre V8, delivering 228kW to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transmission with a limited-slip differential. The car has covered a relatively modest 81,536 kilometres from new, and was originally delivered to South Africa before being exported to Australia. This 928 S2 is finished in metallic grey over a black leather-trimmed cabin, punctuated by beige carpets. It rides on a set of 16-inch seven-spoke alloy wheels, housing red callipers and shod with Michelin tyres. The specification includes an electric sunroof, air conditioning, cruise control, and a Pioneer CD stereo. Accompanying the sale is the owner’s book pack, a handful of maintenance invoices, the spare wheel, and two keys. Please refer to the photo gallery to assess exterior and interior condition. The car was last serviced in May 2023 by Porsche specialist M & R Motors, who refitted a vacuum pipe from the fuel injection, worked on the air conditioning control unit and replaced the sliding buttons, re-gassed the air conditioning system, attended to the taillight fitment and rear bumper, cleaned the sunroof, freed-off the railings and adjusted the sunroof padding, removed the window mechanism to reaffix the outer rubber beading, replaced a rear quarter window bead, and modified the wiring for the dash instruments. M & R Motors stripped and engineered the cylinder heads in June 2022, and also serviced the ABS, replaced the main ABS relay, fitted a new oil sump gasket, and serviced the fuel injectors. Other work carried out included repairing the front spoiler, checking and adjusting the length of the valve springs, pressure-testing the head, and skimming and lapping the valves. Prior to this, M & R Motors serviced the car in March 2022, which included replacing the engine oil and filter, air filters, and spark plugs, performing an engine leak test, pressure-testing the cooling system, repairing the rear wiper and odometer, servicing the driveshafts and CV joints, fitting new CV boots, and repairing the speedometer. This Porsche 928 S2 is an attractive 1980s grand touring coupe, combining its powerful V8 with the involving and lesser-seen manual transmission. Having been treated to some recent minor mechanical and cosmetic repairs, it would make a particularly usable addition to a collection of modern classics, and is ready to serve for many more years as an engaging, comfortable, and refined weekend or long-distance cruiser. The description of this consignment is, to the best of the seller’s knowledge, accurate and not misleading. Collecting Cars requests a range of detail about the lot from the seller and performs a level of due diligence. However, potential buyers must independently satisfy themselves as to the accuracy of the description. Potential buyers should view or arrange inspections as well as conduct any research they feel is necessary before committing to bid or buy. Please note that it is not uncommon for classic or collectible vehicles to have received cosmetic repairs in the past, either to rectify damage or refresh appearance, and this work may be undetectable even upon visual inspection. Unless there is an explicit statement by the seller to the contrary, please assume that any vehicle could have had bodywork or paintwork during its life. Furthermore, photographs may not reflect the true colour or full condition of the vehicle. It is a bidder’s responsibility to satisfy themselves of the colour and condition of a vehicle, including its interior and the existence of any remedial bodywork or paintwork, before committing to bid or buy. This includes by raising enquiries with the seller in the comments section. For vehicles, unless otherwise stated, potential buyers should also assume that any cherished registration may be retained by the seller. Please see our Terms and Conditions for full details.
