Porsche 928 for Sale in Australia1978-1995

About the Porsche 928

The Porsche 928, manufactured globally from 1978 to 1995, remains one of the most ambitious grand tourers ever conceived, famously debuting as the first V8-powered Porsche intended to eventually replace the 911. In the 2026 Australian market, the 928 has undergone a significant reputation shift, moving from an "underrated" alternative to a high-status "blue-chip" classic, particularly as enthusiasts rediscover the engineering brilliance of its transaxle layout and the "Weissach" passive rear-steering axle. Its desirability is currently at an all-time high, especially for the final GTS models with their flared arches and 5.4-litre engines, which are frequent stars at Porsche Club of Australia concours events and social runs. The local buyer pool has expanded to include a younger generation of "transaxle" collectors and tech-savvy purists who aren't intimidated by its complex electronics, often bringing these grand tourers to Eastern Creek Raceway (Sydney Motorsport Park) for Porsche Track Experience sessions and regularity sprints to stretch the legs of the big V8. Consequently, market value for 2026 has remained remarkably firm, with well-documented, Australian-delivered manual versions and pristine S4 or GT variants commanding a significant premium as they are increasingly viewed as the ultimate expression of Porsche’s 20th-century luxury and performance.
