Seller's Notes

This 1987 E30-generation BMW M3 is a desirable 1980s performance hero, which benefits from an engine rebuild. Under the bonnet sits a rebuilt naturally aspirated 2.3-litre ‘S14’ inline-four, delivering around 147kW to the rear wheels via a five-speed dog-leg manual transmission. This example is understood to have originally been a Japan-delivered model, which was later imported to New Zealand in June 2008, before being imported into Australia in May 2022. The odometer shows 116,565 kilometres from new. Build year: 1987 This E30-era M3 is finished in the attractive shade of Alpine White over a black leather-trimmed interior, now featuring an Alcantara-trimmed steering wheel. It rides on its original 15-inch BBS cross-spoke alloys, fitted with Falken tyres. Equipment includes an electric lift-up-and-slide-back sunroof, an on-board computer, electric front windows, cassette storage, air conditioning, and heated front seats. This particular example has been upgraded with a set of custom Shockworks coilover suspension, a front strut brace, Focal speakers in the front and rear, and a retro-look Continental head unit with Bluetooth connectivity, USB, and auxiliary inputs. The car comes with tools, photographic evidence of the engine rebuild, all the maintenance invoices from the car’s time in Australia, and one key. Please refer to the photo gallery to assess the exterior and interior condition. Specific notes from the seller include: the car’s front bumper, bonnet and both front wings have been repainted during its lifetime to correct stone chipping. The most recent inspection of roadworthiness was performed in 2024 during which the seller reports that no warnings or advisory items were noted. The latest service was carried out during November 2024 at around 116,500 km by Reliable Automotive. The work comprised of an engine oil and filter change service. Prior to this, in November 2023 Advantage Suspension fitted new Shockworks coilover suspension, as well as a set of new suspension bushes. Major maintenance was carried out in February 2023 at 113,500 Kms by Bertil Motors, which included fitment of a new engine mount, replacement of the alternator and power steering belts, fuel and air filters, spark plugs, and a complete refurbishment of the air conditioning system, including the fitment of a new blower and resistor. The car is noted to have benefitted from a full engine rebuild, performed at approximately 112,500 km by CF Automotive & Engineering in 2020. Other notable work performed includes the fitment of the Continental Bluetooth head unit, alongside the uprated Focal front and rear speakers. This E30-generation BMW M3 is a subtly upgraded example of the sought-after modern classic performance hero, which benefits from an engine rebuild. Presented in a timeless Alpine White colour scheme, with handsome styling, and boasting an impressive inline-four and a five-speed dog-leg manual gearbox, it would make an excellent addition to any assembly of performance icons, and a rewarding companion for weekend drives.
