Seller's Notes

This 1987 Toyota MR2 is a nimble, mid-engined Japanese sports car, which has been rebuilt and modified by The Skid Factory, a process which was featured in detail as part of their ‘Poor Man’s Ferrari’ YouTube series. It is powered by a modified, rebuilt mid-mounted naturally aspirated silver-top 20-valve 4A-GE 1.6-litre DOHC inline-four with ITBs, individual coil packs, and a set of Kelford cams, which revs to 8,000 rpm, and is coupled to a close-ratio five-speed manual transmission driving the rear wheels. The Skid Factory YouTube series is available to view here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLz2CNjb6s-b_u8ZoyBAux4155r_2nc1CT It also featured on the Zero to 60 channel, where its 0-100km/h sprint time was tested: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ehA6OYSLTwk . Zero to 60 also reviewed the car: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TZziAz8wlbM . The odometer shows 326,763 km. This MR2 is finished in red, over a black vinyl-trimmed interior. Inside its flared wheel arches are a set of 15-inch Enkei Big End Barrel wheels, shod with Hankook Ventus V2 Concept 2 tyres. Inside, the cabin features air conditioning, Sparco R100 seats and a Bluetooth-equipped Kenwood stereo with hands-free. Mechanical changes include adjustable BC Racing coilovers, custom coolant tank and catch can, a Haltech Elite EFI, stainless extractors, an uprated exhaust, , and a Go Fast Bits fuel pressure gauge. The fuel system has been customised to run on Flex E85/98RON fuel. Accompanying the vehicle will be its original service book, which is reportedly stamped up until 1995/110,000 km. Please refer to the photo gallery to assess the exterior and interior condition. The engine bay and ‘frunk’ were resprayed by The Skid Factory around three years ago, while the bonnet was replaced and resprayed alongside the roof, pillars, and front quarters in early 2023. When the seller purchased the car, the right-rear quarter was repaired to rectify two small dents. The headliner was re-trimmed by the previous owner. The air conditioning compressor clutch becomes noisy at high revs. The engine takes longer to start up when running on E85 fuel. The passenger window switch occasionally needs to be pressed twice to close the window. The most recent service was undertaken by the seller in May 2022 at 325,000 km, which included replacement of the engine oil, oil filter, and rear sway bar poly bushes. The previous two services were performed by The Skid Factory. During the seller’s ownership, the steering wheel, A-pillar trims, boot lock, battery, and front speakers have been replaced. The cambelt was last replaced during the engine rebuild featured in the Poor Man’s Ferrari series in 2020. The seller notes that the belt has covered around 4,000 km. This 1987 Toyota MR2 is an impressive mid-engined Japanese sports car, which has been rebuilt and modified by The Skid Factory, a process which was featured in detail as part of their ‘Poor Man’s Ferrari’ YouTube series. Now boasting a wider stance and a raft of high-performance modifications, it would make an exciting companion for weekend drives, or a fun addition to a collection of modified modern classics.
