Seller's Notes

This W460-era Mercedes-Benz 230GE is a handsome example of the iconic modern classic ‘Geländewagen’ 4x4, offered in smart, highly original condition. Under the bonnet sits a naturally aspirated 2.3-litre inline-four, delivering power to all four wheels via a four-speed automatic transmission. The five-digit odometer indicates 13,616 Kms, though the seller notes that the vehicle’s true mileage is believed to be around 113,616 Kms. This 230GE is understood to have originally been a Japan-delivered model, which was imported to Australia in 2017, and has been with the seller and third owner for two years. This 230GE is finished in a handsome dark grey metallic hue, over a grey vinyl and chequered cloth-trimmed interior, punctuated by wood veneer trim inlays on the dashboard and instrument surround. It rides on a set of 15-inch five-spoke alloy wheels, shod in Toyo Open Country A/T tyres. The factory specification includes a heated rear windscreen, a high and low-range gearbox, electric windows, heater and ventilation controls, fold-down rear seats, and a VDO analogue clock. This example now features wind deflectors, a Kenwood CD stereo, Narva front spotlights, and an aftermarket lower dashboard-mounted gauge. The car will be supplied with a warning triangle, and a Japanese sales brochure with a red leather wallet. The dark grey metallic paintwork is believed to be original, and is described by the seller as being in very good overall condition. However, there are various blemishes, chips, and scratches around the car, including surface rust on the passenger-side of the rear bumper, discolouration on the roof gutters, and chips on the edge of the driver’s-side rear corner panel by the tailgate. There are also signs of delamination on the lower edge of the windscreen, and marks on the alloy wheels. Moving inside, the cabin is presented in generally excellent order given the car’s age and usage. There are mild signs of use on the seats, as well as cracking on the centre console ashtray trim, scratches on the rear seat back, loose trim on the rear passenger B-pillar, and a few other minor blemishes and scuffs around the trim. The seller is not aware of any mechanical or electrical faults with the car, and they state that there are no warning lights showing on the dashboard. This 230GE’s most recent maintenance was carried out in July 2022 by Wanted Motorsport, which included the replacement of the tie rods, wheel bearings, an axle seal, and thermostat, as well as the alternator being rebuilt. This W460-era Mercedes-Benz 230GE is a handsome example of the versatile yet stylish modern classic 4x4, offered in smart, highly original condition. Finished in a timeless colour scheme, with instantly recognisable styling, and impressive off-road capabilities, it would make a fine addition to any collection, and a highly capable companion for retro daily driving, weekend adventures, and longer-distance road trips alike. The description of this auction lot is, to the best of the seller's knowledge, accurate and not misleading. Collecting Cars requests a range of detail about the lot from the seller, and performs a level of due diligence. However, bidders must satisfy themselves as to the accuracy of the description, and conduct any research they feel is necessary before committing to a bid.
