Seller's Notes

A smart, usable example of the rare long-wheelbase 4x4, presented in a handsome black-on-black colour scheme. Under the hood is a 3.0-litre inline-six, which drives all four wheels via the four-speed 4G-Tronic automatic transmission, three electrically locking differentials, and selectable low-range gearing. The odometer currently displays 147,876 kilometres from new. This Japanese-market right-hand drive W463-generation Mercedes-Benz 300GE was imported and first registered in Australia in August 2020, where it has been enjoyed as a stylish daily driver without any extensive off-road use. The W463-generation G-Class built upon the original W460, rounding off some of its harsh utilitarian edges to produce an exceedingly capable and notable more refined luxury vehicle. This example features black metallic paintwork over a matching black leather-trimmed cabin, with smart wood inlays on the dashboard, centre console, and door cards. It rides on a set of 16-inch, five-spoke alloy wheels. Amongst the vehicle’s selection of practical and well-considered upgrades are a Pioneer Rhino roof rack, a Kings awning and tent, a custom Hertz sound system and subwoofer, a custom stereo head unit, a reversing camera and dash cam, and an immobiliser and tracking system through AIS live, which provides mobile alerts when the car has left specific locations, as well as remote functionality to disable the engine. This G-Wagon will be sold with its original Japanese operation manual, service and maintenance history, including some original service records in Japanese, and its registration certificates housed in a leather Mercedes-Benz document folder. The vendor notes that there was a crack in the rear bumper when they purchased the vehicle, which is believed to have been caused by a minor accident. This has since been repaired and repainted, and there is no other known accident history or damage. The black metallic paintwork is believed to be original and is in good overall condition given the car’s age, with a few minor blemishes around the vehicle, along with faint swirl marks and light scratches. The rear bumper has been repainted where the aforementioned crack was repaired, and there is a small crack in the paint behind the rear spare tyre. Inside, the cabin presents well but does show some general signs of use. There is visible wear on the front seat bolsters, and the leather beside the driver’s seat’s adjustment lever is torn and loose. The headliner was replaced in 2021 and the material presents well, however the vendor notes that it is sagging in some places suggesting a potential issue with the installation. One of the speaker grilles is also missing. The rear passenger side window does not open and close smoothly, which the vendor believes to be a simple lubrication issue. There are no other known mechanical or electrical faults with the vehicle. This 300GE’s most recent routine maintenance was carried out by George Hall's Auto Service in November 2021 at 143,681 kilometres. During this work a bleeder hose was found to be interfering with the radiator cap, which was leaking slowly. They replaced the radiator cap and shortened and clamped the bleeder hose. Prior to this, a general service was performed by German Auto Haus in October 2021. Work included checking the fuel pressure, pump and fuses, and replacing the electro-hydraulic actuator on the fuel distributor. At the same time, the fuel head was checked and serviced, and the overvoltage protection relay was replaced. In June 2021, German Auto Haus installed a new battery and cooler lines, serviced the transmission and completed a general service. The cam belt was replaced in May 2020. The vendor also notes that some of the pistons were replaced as they had been damaged by the timing chain when they took ownership of the vehicle, and some head gasket repairs have also been carried out. This 1991 Mercedes-Benz 300GE ‘LWB’ is a smart and beloved example of the go-anywhere luxury vehicle. A rare early right-hand drive model imported from Japan in 2020, this 300GE has been well cared-for since arriving in Australia, and should make a stylish, comfortable and eminently capable daily driver for its next owner.
