AP2 (2004 to 2009)

Introduced in 2004 as an evolution of the original AP1, the Honda S2000 AP2 was developed to deliver a more refined and stable driving experience while retaining the high-revving, driver-focused DNA that defined the model. The AP2 featured a revised 2.2-litre naturally aspirated inline-four (F22C) in most markets, trading peak revs for improved mid-range torque, along with suspension revisions, a longer rear differential ratio, and interior updates aimed at improving everyday usability. Offered exclusively with a 6-speed manual transmission and rear-wheel drive, the AP2 remained a pure sports car in an era increasingly dominated by automation and turbocharging. Total AP2 production is estimated at approximately 48,000–50,000 units worldwide, forming the latter portion of overall S2000 output. In the Australian market, AP2 cars were officially delivered and are often favoured over AP1s for their improved ride and stability, with values driven by low kilometres, originality, service history, and condition, as the S2000 continues to gain recognition as one of the last truly analogue Japanese sports cars.
