Introduced in 1999, the Mazda RX-7 Series 8 represents the final and most refined evolution of the FD-generation RX-7, bringing subtle styling updates, improved reliability, and chassis refinements to Mazda’s iconic twin-turbo rotary sports car. Series 8 models retained the twin-turbocharged 13B 1.3-litre rotary, producing up to 280 PS (276 hp) in Japanese-market trim, paired predominantly with a 5-speed manual transmission, while benefiting from updated ECU tuning, revised cooling, and improved interior materials. Visually, Series 8 cars are distinguished by updated headlights, tail lights, wheels, and interior trim, and the range culminated with special variants such as the Type R Bathurst and the highly collectible Spirit R, built to mark the end of RX-7 production. Total Series 8 production is estimated at approximately 7,000–8,000 units worldwide, making it the rarest mainstream FD update.
