MARKET ANALYSIS
IX (2006 to 2007)

Introduced for the 2006 model year, the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX is widely regarded as the ultimate development of the classic 4G63-powered Evo formula, refining decades of rally-bred engineering into its most complete form. Powered by a turbocharged 2.0-litre inline-four and paired with Mitsubishi’s advanced all-wheel-drive system, the Evo IX delivered improved response and drivability over its predecessor, while retaining the raw, mechanical character that defined earlier generations. While the Evo lineage was traditionally sedan-only, the Evo IX uniquely spawned a station wagon variant for the Japanese market, broadening the model’s appeal. Standout versions included the MR, featuring lighter components and improved suspension, and the UK-specific MR FQ-360 developed by Ralliart. Estimated global production is approximately 20,000–22,000 units, before the model was replaced in 2007 by the Evolution X. In the Australian market, the Evo IX was officially sold and is often considered the most desirable “modern classic” Evo, with values driven by MR specification, manual transmission preference, originality, mileage, and condition, as enthusiasts increasingly view it as the peak of the traditional Lancer Evolution era.
