The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, commonly known as the Evo, was a performance-focused sports sedan introduced in 1992, developed primarily to homologate Mitsubishi’s World Rally Championship efforts. Built around a turbocharged 2.0-litre inline-four engine and a sophisticated all-wheel-drive system, every Evolution model was engineered with motorsport in mind, blending everyday usability with serious rally-bred performance. The model evolved through ten generations (Evolution I to Evolution X), each refining chassis, drivetrain, and aerodynamics, while maintaining the core formula that made the Evo a global icon. Although originally a Japanese-market model, strong international demand saw the Lancer Evolution officially reach markets like Australia, where it quickly built a cult following thanks to its rally success, tuning potential, and giant-killing performance.
