About the Porsche 718 Cayman

The Porsche 718 Cayman, manufactured globally since 2016, is the precision-engineered, mid-engined coupe that many enthusiasts consider the purest driver’s car in the Porsche stable. While production of the petrol-powered 982-generation officially wrapped up in late 2025, the model remains a dominant force at track days across Australia, where its perfectly central weight distribution and razor-sharp turn-in make it a favourite for carving through technical corners at circuits like Sandown and The Bend. In the 2026 Australian market, the Cayman has transitioned into an "analogue icon" phase, with desirability reaching extreme levels for the high-revving GTS 4.0 and the track-honed GT4 RS as purists scramble to secure the final internal-combustion units. The local buyer pool is a sophisticated mix of weekend racers and "blue-chip" investors who value the car's role as a "turn-key" track weapon, often supported by the Porsche Track Experience program where the Cayman serves as the primary tool for high-level driver training. Locally, market value for 2026 has remained remarkably resilient, with well-documented, manual-equipped examples often commanding a premium as the automotive world prepares for the 718's shift to a fully electric platform in the coming year.
