MARKET ANALYSIS
Blobeye (2003 to 2005)

The Subaru Impreza Blobeye was produced from 2003 to 2005 and represents the facelifted middle phase of the second-generation Impreza, following the short-lived Bugeye and preceding the Hawkeye. Visually defined by its smoother, oval-shaped headlights and revised front-end styling, the Blobeye addressed criticism of the earlier design while retaining the same proven GD chassis underneath. Offered in sedan and five-door hatchback body styles, the range continued with naturally aspirated models alongside the highly influential WRX and WRX STi, both of which benefited from ongoing mechanical refinements driven by Subaru’s World Rally Championship program. Total Blobeye Impreza production is estimated at approximately 450,000–500,000 units worldwide, with performance variants making up a relatively small proportion. In the Australian market, Blobeye WRX and STi models are particularly significant, having been officially sold in strong numbers and widely used in motorsport and tuning circles, which has led to increasing separation in values between modified and original cars. Today, prices are driven by variant, transmission (manual preference), originality, mileage, and condition, with clean, unmodified WRX and STi examples increasingly sought after as some of the most usable and recognisable rally-era Imprezas.
