Seller's Notes
A late ‘90s rally icon, this Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI offers everyday practicality and stunning performance, which has been further enhanced by mild engine tuning and an aftermarket suspension setup. Under the bonnet is the 2.0-litre turbocharged inline-four, which is mated to a five-speed manual transmission, sending power to all four wheels. It has around 281bhp at the wheels. Starting its life in Japan, this right-hand drive example was imported into Australia by the seller in 2018, and was registered in May the same year. The odometer displays 123,446 km from new. Featuring a TME (Tommi Makinen Edition) front bumper and an aftermarket carbon-fibre bonnet, this Evo VI looks every bit the road-going rally car. Today, the bodywork is in generally good condition, having only suffered from minor damage in the past, including to the left-hand rear wheel arch - which occurred prior to the car’s importation, and is visible when the door is open - and minor hail damage on the panel above the right-hand rear door. The seller also notes that the right-hand section of the front bumper bar was damaged when the car bumped a pole, but this has since been repaired and resprayed, with the rear lower bumper having been painted at the same time. Overall, this Evo’s Scotia White paintwork presents well, and features only a few marks and blemishes, including a section of missing paint on the rear splitter and some crazing to the paint covering the bonnet. TME-style Ralliart stripes have also been applied to the flanks, and the rally legend’s name also appears on the rear wing’s side supports, though these decals could be removed should the buyer wish to return the car to a more original appearance. This rally hero rides on a set of white, 17-inch Work Emotion CR-Kai alloy wheels, which suit it well, and feature only minor blemishes and signs of wear. On stepping into the cabin, you are met by a pair of heavily bolstered Recaro bucket seats, helping to keep the driver and front passenger in place during more spirited drives. The blue and black upholstery is very smart, though there is some wear to the webbing on the driver’s seat and a small hole in the left-hand side rear seat, which was the case when the car was imported. Elsewhere, the interior trim presents well; however some of the door cards’ trim is missing and the interior trim inside the boot is also absent. Interior modifications include a short shifter for slicker gear changes, as well as a Defi ZD advance meter displaying speed, rpm, oil pressure, oil temperature and water temperature. A Defi boost gauge has also been fitted, along with a GFB boost controller. Entertainment is provided via the recently-fitted Pioneer sound system with Bluetooth connectivity and digital radio, while two Kenwood tweeters were installed in the dashboard prior to the current keeper’s ownership. Routinely serviced, this Evo VI is reported to be in fine mechanical order, with the engine oil and oil filter having been replaced every six months during the vendor’s ownership. Most recently, 4.Mance Automotive in Artarmon, New South Wales, replaced the rear differential and changed the engine oil in December 2020 at 123,440 km. Prior to this, 4.Mance Automotive also carried out a pre-registration check, engine oil and filter change in July 2020 and replaced the car’s thermostat and a split vacuum line in November 2019. Immediately after the car was imported, specialist MRT Performance performed a full inspection before replacing a number of items, including the spark plugs, suspension bushings, air filter and tail lights – as well as repairing the rocker cover gasket. Other replacement items include the fuel pump, clutch, flywheel and blow-off valve, which were changed due to wear on the original components. While this example is largely unmodified, a select few components have been replaced with aftermarket items to enhance the car’s performance. This includes the suspension, which was replaced with adjustable BC coilovers, and the exhaust, which has been changed for a custom-built three-inch system. The seller also states that a Tomei Expreme exhaust manifold heat shield has been added to help keep under-bonnet temperatures in check, all of the brake discs and pads have been replaced, and the brake callipers were refurbished. All four wheels are shod in Yokohama Advan AD08R tyres in size 225/45 R17, which are approximately two years old, and are described as having around half their tread remaining. The car is accompanied by its original Japanese owner’s manual and other literature, and the seller will supply documentation of all maintenance performed during its time in Australia. Idolised by rally fans, the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI is a high-performance four-door saloon that can be an exciting weekend toy, but can also accommodate the whole family. Featuring a few choice modifications, this Evo is sure to bring a smile to its next owner’s face at every opportunity, and will make a welcome addition to any rally-lover’s collection.
