EVO II (1988 to 1988)

Introduced in 1988, the BMW M3 E30 Evolution II was a homologation-focused upgrade created to keep the E30 M3 competitive in international touring car racing, refining both performance and aerodynamics over the standard model. Power from the 2.3-litre S14 inline-four was increased, while weight was reduced through thinner glass and lighter components, and the car gained distinctive aero upgrades including a deeper front spoiler, rear wing, and revised suspension tuning. Built exclusively as a coupe, the Evolution II sharpened the E30 M3’s already race-bred character and sits between the original M3 and the later Sport Evolution in the hierarchy. Production was limited to approximately 500 examples worldwide, underscoring its rarity. In the Australian market, genuine E30 M3 Evolution II cars are exceptionally scarce and typically arrive via import, with values driven by authenticity, originality, matching numbers, provenance, and condition, placing it among the most collectible BMW M cars ever produced.
