Citroën for Sale in Australia1919-Present

About the Citroën

Citroën, the vanguard of French automotive nonconformity since its 1919 founding, has built its legacy on engineering marvels that challenged the industry’s status quo, with current market values in 2026 showing a significant divide between the accessible 2CV, averaging $18,500, and the blue-chip DS, which typically commands $64,000 for well-sorted examples, while rare SM variants can easily exceed $150,000. The brand's desirability is rooted in its "quirky" and forward-thinking identity, exemplified by the "Traction Avant's" pioneering front-wheel drive and the DS's legendary hydropneumatic suspension, features that have solidified these cars as culturally significant icons of pop culture and design history. The buyer pool is a sophisticated, global network of intellectual collectors and design purists who value mechanical soul over brute force, along with a passionate Australian community of "Citroënistes" who prize the marque for its unique ability to combine avant-garde flair with a surprisingly smooth ride on rugged B-roads. Despite a more restrained character following the 1976 Peugeot acquisition, the 2026 market has seen a resurgence in interest for "modern classics" like the XM and CX, ensuring that Citroën remains a top-tier choice for enthusiasts seeking a vehicle that is as much a rolling piece of art as it is a functional machine.
